Over the Hills and Far Away rustic wood panel 23.25″x5.5″x.625″

I had been experimenting with a blow out technique, a la Olga Soby, with blues, yellow, transparent magenta, and white. After I worked on that piece (still not finished many months later because it hasn’t come to me what the next step is), I used the leftover paint to create this one. Looking at the creation photo with the layout of the paint as I started, it doesn’t seem possible that this piece was a result.

It’s fascinating that what looks to be such a brilliant, deep magenta turns out almost lavender in the finished result, but that’s because it’s transparent.

It was interesting to see the gentle flow as I tilted and worked the piece. After it was finished, it reminded me of Middle Earth. You can just imagine hobbit homes tucked away in those hills… which also reminded me of the Led Zeppelin song, “Over the Hills and Far Away.” Hence the name!
