Lord Buddha

After I finished Green Tara in 2021, I was drawn to continue my exploration in eastern studies. Buddha has many forms, and the one I’m drawn to the most is the standard Lord Buddha. I found several images online and even one video showing a woman drawing and then painting.

I chose to do another large canvas, 36″x48″, which I knew would be quite a journey. I wasn’t going to finish Lord Buddha the next day, for sure!

For over a year, I worked on Lord Buddha, but to be honest, it wasn’t like I was working on it every day or even every week.

I was a little intimidated by the shading I wanted; then I was intimidated by his robes.

Once I got over myself and just took as long as I did (and knowing I can always paint over a mistake!), it all emerged beautifully.

It’s not done yet – I still need to work on the lotus – but I am so pleased. I told Mark that I actually don’t believe I did this. I think some elves came in at night and worked on it. 🙂

I am the most proud of this particular piece. It’s the best thing I think I’ve ever created. I am humbled and blessed.
